As web designers, we get caught up in trying to keep up to date with web technologies like XHTML, CSS, PHP and CMS engines; and lets face it, we have to be up to date on all of this to succeed in today's web environment. Often, as a result in trying to keep up on the technology side of things, we tend to put off learning about new design and usability principles. It's okay, we all are guilty from time to time, but let us not make this a habit. Designing without a clear notion of what the design does to the user is like wiring a house without knowing the correct wattage. In my free time I usually try to track down books or resources that will allow me to get a deeper understanding of design and how users are effected by a design. I have found the following resources to be a great companion to any designer.
